And now, what to pack? This is surely a question no woman can easily answer…
Packing a suitcase for a short winter trip is the most daunting challenge a woman can face. How can I decide what to pack and what to leave behind? It often happens to me to be standing in front of a relatively small suitcase (how big can it be for a short trip?) and several things to pack that are necessary but take up too much space (boots, overcoat, etc.). What am I to do then?
By the years, I have come out with some simple rules which make my life easier every time I ask myself: what to pack?. I have also created a magic list with few but really magical pieces which make me look super in the trip. All I have to do is check my list and my suitcase is done in no time. See more below:
The versatile coat

This is the ideal piece to complete all your winter looks with elegance. Pick one in a pastel color to make sure that you look awesome in all your photos with the grey sky of a European city as a background.
The combo: Skinny pants + lace top

You will wear the skinny pants with flat boots in all your morning walks around the city. In the evening, you will upgrade it with a lace top and you will be ready for a dinner out.
The bags

Two words: Cross body. I always stick to messenger bags and camera bags for hands-free ease and light ones so as to avoid a shoulder ache at the end of the day.

I usually choose a neutral color like black or grey to ensure that the bag will look right with all combinations.

A big tote made of soft leather is a must for the flight. My favourite one is a bag from Callista Crafts in a metallic aubergine hue that can be combined with almost everything and carried all year round.

The shoes

Sneakers, loafers and mid heels are always in my list to cover all my needs during the trip. Sneakers are the best for sightseeing, chic loafers can be used to dress up an evening outfit in case you feel too tired to wear heels and mid-heel pumps are a must when you need a pair of more elegant shoes.
Some more tips about what to pack for a winter city trip
- I always invest on scarves. During a trip, they can add class to my looks and keep me warm at the same time. They can also serve as a blanket during the flight.
- I make sure I take some thermal t-shirts with me. They take up little space in the suitcase and they help me feel warm and look elegant in my chic coat (and not in a puffy jacket that makes me look like the Michelin man).
- I wear my bulkier sweater and coat when traveling in order to save space in my luggage.
