A cool new entry in the list of Madrid boutique hotels, strategically located in the heart of a dream shopping block!
A business trip to Madrid organized by premium toothpaste brand Yotuel was an opportunity for me to discover Totem Hotel. This is a cool new entry that combines eclectic style with an ideal location (in the heart of elegant and upmarket Salamanca neighbourhood).
This boutique hotel, housed in a 19th century building, is full of positive vibes and surely an honest modern choice for a chic escape to the Spanish capital.
Its 64 functional rooms are minimal and clean lined with mid-century pieces and colourful touches and overlook the elegant streets of Salamanka (unless you book the atmospheric attic suite with windows that open to the sky).
From the impressive wooden staircase to the big plants of the cocktail bar and from the tiled floor in the bathrooms to the wooden “do not disturb” sign, there are lots to instagram in Totem Hotel which opened in June 2016.
I loved Totem from the moment I saw the Happy Pills in my mini bar (a cute box of jelly beans and candies). I was certain that it will become one of my favourite city hotels when I realized that its restaurant (already a cool spot for Madrilenos) is named after one of my favorite books. The restaurant is called Hermanos y Malditos which is the spanish title of the famous Beautiful and Damned by F. S. Fitzgerald and is the perfect place for an after work drink or an elegant dinner. It is also where guests have breakfast, choosing from a long menu list that includes one of the yummiest avocado toasts I have ever tasted.
I would also like to note to potential shoppers that Totem stands in the middle of a dream shopping block! You can find high street brands like And Other stories, The Kooples, Uterque, Cos but also famous fashion boutiques such as Manolo Blahnik and Max Mara, within 3 minute walking distance. Apart from these, there are also lots of little shops, elegant boutiques and cute cafes, that are waiting to be discovered.
