What a fascinating hotel story! The magic wand of famous designer Philipe Starck touches a majestically landscaped historic building on the shoreline of Zurich Lake and …a star is born. Or should I say 5 stars? Talking about La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich, the new hotel by Philippe Starck that reopened a few months after a meticulous renovation, joining La Réserve’s luxe portfolio.
The 1909 Neobarock building and the beautiful landscape of the lake create a really impressive setting for a five-star hotel great start for a creative genius mind like Starck’s.

“The hotel I create are like a movie of which I am the director. I imagine the coming and going of people, what they are going to experience, what they will feel, I create stories borrowed from love, humor, poetry, tenderness, surrealism and art,” says Philippe Starck about his creative approach to hotel projects. For the rebirth of La Réserve he envisioned a classy and at the same time modern Yacht Club by the lake, which offers an elegant and timeless experience in Zurich.
Philippe Starck conceived the renovation to be minimal yet not minimalist, based on a quest to reveal the structural soul and raw poetry of the place, releasing the light and maximizing the architectural volumes.

The hotel’s fabled facade, its blue and white striped blinds protecting elaborate balconies, lion heads and other historical sculptures, have been preserved as reminders of an intelligent and elegant leisure spirit begun in the early 20th century. In an almost archaeological approach, the bricks of the walls, marble of the basements, solid wood floors and concrete details have been exhumed from beneath successive layers of plaster, tapestries or wallpaper. These newly revealed elements and natural materials infuse the place with a spirit of timeless modernity.
“La Réserve Eden au Lac Zurich is like rock and roll dancing with the Queen of England; everything is classic, yet nothing is classic anymore. It is a timeless blend of creativity, classicism and intelligence – like Switzerland itself.” says the designers. Philippe Starck imagined a nautical universe: chiseled red wood reminiscent of the hull of a boat; photographs and paintings of sailboats and captains like a gallery of family portraits scattered throughout the hotel. The lake is an omnipresent attraction that remains visible everywhere and at all times thanks to an architectural design that is open to the outside.
The only five-star hotel on the shoreline, La Réserve Eden au Lac enjoys the benefit of its location and an exceptional environment in all seasons, featuring 40 rooms and suites, two bars and restaurants with spectacular views of the city and the lake.
