Pulitzer Amsterdam has revealed one of Amsterdam’s largest exterior Christmas trees.
This festive season, Pulitzer Amsterdam – set within 25 interlinked 17th and 18th-century canal houses in one of Amsterdam’s chicest Nine Streets neighbourhoods – has partnered with renowned Danish fashion designer Claes Iversen, whose designs have been worn by artists and royalty like Queen Máxima of The Netherlands and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, to create one of Amsterdam’s largest exterior Christmas trees.
The impressive tree is over 30 feet high and uses unique materials to showcase Iversen’s authentic craftsmanship in combination with his signature modern design, creating a bold yet elegant festive display.
Iversen inspiration behind the design of the tree came from his earlier couture pieces, using elements of one of his previous dress designs to create brightly coloured bows and rings which cover the tree. Both the historic hotel and accomplished designer are known to blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, making the partnership between the Pulitzer Amsterdam and Iversen a natural fit. With Christmas being Iversen’s favourite holiday, the designer was delighted to be asked to design the tree for such an iconic hotel.
Iversen: “For me, a tree must always hold something magical, it must awaken your inner child. It is much like couture: Something that moves us and feels like a dream. There are no limits to decorating a tree, everything is allowed, and everything is possible.” Whilst creating this spectacular Christmas tree, Iversen found the biggest challenge to be creating ornaments that were suitable for outdoor use, as well as working with the sheer size of the tree. He notes “The colour I have chosen is a colour that I like to use in many of my collections. Fortunately, Pulitzer was immediately enthusiastic about my colour choice. I hope that lots of people will visit Pulitzer Amsterdam to come and see the tree.”
