Which is the iconic hotel that hosts the nostalgic event?
All time classic Poseidonion Grand Hotel hosts the 5th edition of The Tweed Run, where typical British style meets the Greek island life. An air of nostalgia will waft through the island of Spetses this autumn as the Tweed Run returns for the fifth year and promises to be even more spectacular than ever! From the 19th to 21st of October 2018 scores of cycling enthusiasts will once again meet up at the iconic Poseidonion Grand Hotel in order to explore the island, dressed up in their finest vintage garb.
The Tweed Run, which first began in London, has ‘travelled’ to several major cities all over the world and arrived in Greece for the first time in November of 2014 within the context of the centenary celebration of the Poseidonion Grand Hotel. Since then, it has proven to be one of the most popular events on the island of aromas, with the typically British style complementing perfectly the aristocratic character of Spetses.
Classic bicycles, chic appearances dominated by a vintage tweed dress code and English tradition will overtake the island for three days once again as the cyclists indulge in leisurely rides through the Spetses countryside, stopping off at the local beauty spots and enjoying the charm of the island’s culture and surroundings.
During my second time there, in 2016, I enjoyed the ride, the picnic, the strolling on my favorite island and most of all, my stay at a historic hotel which combines all time classic charm with updated luxury.
A charming bike run with the Argosaronic gulf as a backdrop, traditional picnics accompanied by the sounds of jazz, stop-offs for tea in true British style, beauty pageants for the most impressive dresser, treasure hunts and fun dexterity games are just some of the surprises awaiting participants in the most stylish event of Spetses. The unique three-day affair will reach a climax again this year with an extravagant party in the Poseidonion’s lobby in celebration of the good old days of yesteryear.
The Tweed run is organised again this year with the kind support of the Hellenic Bicycle Museum, with Hendrick’s Gin sponsoring the event, one of the most well-known British brand who will definitely bring its own distinctive style to the revelry.
It’s time to polish your bike, pick out your best vintage outfit, don your most elegant hat and bring your warmest smile to the Poseidonion Square for a jolly old trip down memory lane.
