Six designers have been honoured with six cakes on the ‘cakewalk” of Prêt-à-Portea 2020
Calling all afternoon tea lovers and dedicated fashionistas! The fabulous Prêt-à-Portea by The Berkeley, which, for 15 years now, gives a contemporary twist to afternoon tea with a collection of catwalk- inspired cakes, is served again after nine months.
Prêt-à-Portea 2020: The designers
Six designers have been honoured with six cakes on the ‘cakewalk” this time! The bold collection of the Prêt-à-Portea 2020 features Marc Jacobs’ fuzzy 60s-inspired coat and hat ensemble, appearing as a joconde sponge and lemon confit, topped with citrus fromage blanc and a soft meringue whip. Prada sits alongside as a chocolate biscuit intricately piped with royal icing, to portray the sporty heels and ribbed socks that stomped down the runway.

Simone Rocha’s dreamy pearl evening bag, which appeared alongside fisherman’s bags and nets in the designers show, is crafted with Ivoire Valrhona chocolate. Once cracked, a Madagascar vanilla ganache and passion fruit jelly are revealed.
Dolce & Gabbana embellished monochrome pieces with scarlet roses for Autumn Winter. This is depicted as a toasted coconut whipped ganache sitting on tiers of Jivara chocolate supreme and coconut sponge. Sugar red roses are the final flourish.
Riccardo Tisci’s emerald green Burberry trench is a cake showcasing both matcha and black sesame mousse. This is set on a pistachio sablé and finished with fruit tuile lace and gold button details. Finally, the season’s most epic piece is Moschino’s Marie Antoinette inspired mini gown which was modelled by Bella Hadid. This showstopper appears as a cake designed to share – a pink lady apple bavarois and Bramley apple compote sit on a cinnamon financier forming the vast pannier skirt, whilst the spiced biscuit torso is complete with royal icing evening gloves and an oversized wig.
The Prêt-à-Portea 2020 collaboration
For an added creative twist, The Berkeley invites fashion insiders to co-create a final cake with Head of Pastry Mourad Khiat, inspired by a treasured item or fashion moment. Following previous partners including Erin O’Connor, Sandra Choi and Martha Ward, the Prêt-à-Portea 2020 launches with Alice Naylor Leyland, prominent fashionista and Mrs Alice founder, as its festive tastemaker for November and December. Alice chose her precious personalised Edie Parker glittering clutch – the perfect Christmas accessory – given to her by her best friend Poppy Delevingne.
It has been created as a mi-cuit almond cake with orange segments, sandwiched with marbled Opalys chocolate. ‘Alice’ is handwritten with edible gold glitter and the bag is topped with a gold sugar clasp.
