Elegant rooftop, check! Iconic city view, check! But there’s more…
Here is a useful tip from a hotel lover. If you want to have some amazing time in a city you just landed, find the right hotel rooftop! This is what I do and I never go wrong. My business trips are usually very short and with a little spare time but I want to make the most of it. So, I choose carefully the most elegant rooftop with the most iconic city view and I head there without a second thought. This is what happened in my recent trip to Madrid.
(Read here all about the cool hotel I stayed in Madrid)
I had done my research and I was more than sure that I simply had to have lunch in Ático, the restaurant that is found on the 6th floor of The Principal Madrid Hotel in the beginning of Gran Via.
Elegant rooftop, check! Iconic city view, check! But there’s more. Ático menu is curated by famous catalan chef Raimon Freixa, whose restaurant in sister property, Hotel Unico Madrid, already won two Michelin stars so I also expected a memorable culinary experience there. And so it happened. It was a sunny Saturday when my friends and I visited The Principal which belongs to the group of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. With a summery weather, we asked to be seated at the verandah where we enjoyed some of the exquisite dishes of Freixa, looking at the clear blue sky of Madrid and the dome of the emblematic Metropolis building.
Our lunch at Ático started with mini gazpachos and our delicious choices included a roasted octopus and a aged-beef burger with puff-pastry bread as well as an amazing chocolate dessert and a super photogenic waffle with red berries!
Then, we discovered the seventh heaven of The Principal. La Terraza on the 7th floor is the perfect sunset spot or an excellent idea for sunbathing in the center of the city. With its chic red cushions and umbrellas, it has a cosmopolitan charm that makes it really unique and offers the best classical cocktails or cutting-edge proposals of advanced mixologists.
