Anemi Hotel Folegandros has a unique, sophisticated approach to Cycladic simplicity
There are lots of Greeks (myself included) that feel summer in their hearts only when they visit Cyclades. For a lot of us, vacation freedom identifies with the typical Cycladic landscape and way of living: whitewashed houses, rocky mountains and crystal blue bays, bar hopping in picturesque cobbled streets and Mediterranean meals in traditional taverns. It is a magic combination when you find all the above together with the right touch of cool luxury at a destination that remains authentic. This is exactly what Anemi Hotel Folegandros offers its guests.
Situated in the small port of Folegandros, an island that has become the meeting point of eclectic bohemians from around the world without losing its unique character, Anemi Hotel Folegandros is a hotel I really love and recommend to whoever desires to live the ultimate “greek island” experience.
Τhere are several reasons that make Anemi Hotel Folegandros one of my favourite hotels in Greece and a top choice for holidays in Cyclades. I really love the contemporary, sophisticated approach to Cycladic simplicity which results to a group of white houses adorned with bougainvillea and decorated in minimal style with modern design touches.
Personal favourite details are the traditional oil tins that serve as basil pots at the lobby (exactly what happens in the village yards) as well as the artful photos by Margarita Nikitaki capturing the summer life of Folegandros in the rooms.
Every small detail in Anemi has been selected to reflect a stylish kind of island life; from the soft colors of the personnel outfit, to the cool Seletti porcelain tableware that resembles disposable paper dishes.
The astonishing interior and exterior design has been carried out with passion and creativity by Stage Design Office, a renowned design studio in Greece, creating Anemi Hotel’s signature style, combining elements from the present and the past.
Last summer, Anemi Hotel Folegandros organized its first Anemi Festival, inviting famous artists of the Greek and international music scene to the beautiful Cycladic island. It had a great success and immediately showed that something different is happening in Folegandros. This summer, too, popular Greek artists are going to make summer evenings at Anemi, even more enjoyable with their music.

Days at Anemi Hotel Folegandros define “easy summer living”
While staying there I liked to start my day ordering a traditional kouloura (a typical Folegandros snack that consists of a sesame bun stuffed with local cream cheese “souroto”, honey and fruits and then soak up in the sun by the infinity pool. I often took a light snack on my sunbed or enjoyed an afternoon siesta on the crisp cotton sheets of my spacious room.
Custom cocktails and creative dishes at dinner would complete my day whenever I didn’t feel like spending some time strolling at beautiful Chora. Note here that the restaurant at Anemi Hotel Folegandros and its team have a unique way of combining traditional flavours with modern cuisine. If you find yourself there, you definitely should not forget to taste the unique “Matsata” of Folegandros, the traditional pasta that is exclusively made on the island, and combine it with one of the refined wines of Anemi Hotel’s cellar.
Gazing at the stars from my balcony which overlooked the port lit up at night was a must to make me completely unwind before sleep.
And that, my friend, is what I call holiday bliss… Click on the gallery below to see what I mean.
