While in Barcelona, I had the chance to enjoy a cocktail on the rooftop bar of a hot new hotel entry called The Serras, a hotel with a strong Mediterranean identity, which checks all the boxes of modern hospitality.
I was also lucky enough to be guided at the hotel by Mrs Carla Serra. I loved Carla’s hosting as much as the vibes at the Serras Hotel. But what I loved most was the family story behind this remarkable project.
Carla’s father, Jordi Serra, a very successful businessman in the field of technology and a passionate traveler, used to discuss with his children the idea of having a hotel of their own, for years and years. After his retirement, Mr. Serra decided to make their dream come true and created The Serras, which is also a member of the Design Hotels. It seems to me that Mr Serras, being a perfectionist, made a hotel with a strong Mediterranean identity, which checks all the boxes of modern hospitality.
He started by finding a building that will wow all fans of hotel culture. It features an authentic neo-classical façade, made by Francesc Daniel Molina, designer of Plaza Royal and was the first studio of Picasso, who painted there the famous painting Ciencia y Caridad. The building which overlooks both the Gothic Old Town and Port Vell Marina, has undergone a €125 million renovation and is now the first five star hotel on the waterfront in Central Barcelona. The elegant interiors are signed by Spanish designer Eva Martinez, who used trademark materials and motifs of Barcelona tradition into several details of the hotel areas ( I really loved the way she transfers the idea of the ceramic tiles into modern patterns found on wallpapers and bed headboards).
Details go on to surprise the guest, throughout the stay: the “sweet welcome” at the room is delicious and instagram -worthy, the mini bar includes smart kits for calm sleep and hangover remedies, the cocktails are served in the most original way.
As for The Serras restaurant, named Informal, it is overseen by Marc Gascons, a top catalan chef awarded with a Michelin-Star. It offers a menu consisted of local products and is already considered among the new cool dining spots of the city,
I would undoubtedly recommend a stay at The Serras and a chance to experience waking up to the sea views of its elegant balconies. In any case, if you find yourself in Barcelona, definitely plan a visit to the decked terrace for a cocktail at dusk!
