The former home of the Earls of Clarendon at Hertfordshire, with a rich history dating back to the 1500s known as The Grove Hotel, has just unveiled its extensive renovation!
The Grove Hotel at Hertfordshire, London’s inspiring country estate, re-opened on 17 May, marking the start of a new era for the historic retreat. The extensive refurbishment that has taken place over the last two years has culminated in the full re-mastering of 189 bedrooms, which will be complete in a matter of days. As well as an evolution of the interiors, the hotel will be unveiling new faces, spaces, dining concepts and exciting pop-ups in preparation for a summer of staycations.
A Brand New Look by Martin Hulbert Design
Upon re-opening, The Grove will be revealing the results of an extensive refurbishment, designed by award-winning interiors studio, Martin Hulbert Design. Completed during the lockdown, the lobby, bedrooms and three dining spaces – The Glasshouse, The Stables, and Lounges – all enjoy completely refreshed looks.
Bold and contemporary – just as they were at the hotel’s launch in 2003 – the new interiors do feature some of the original pieces of furniture, creating a re-imagined environment ready for guests to enjoy, with a nod to the previous chapter in the hotel’s history.
Introducing New Executive Chef Maarten Geschwindt
Monday 17 May will also see the re-opening of all restaurants at The Grove, headed up by newly appointed Executive Chef, Maarten Geschwindt. Geschwindt will oversee all five dining experiences: The Glasshouse, The Stables, The Lounges and pop up restaurants in partnership with Madhu’s and Jimmy Garcia. Whilst the hotel’s signature restaurant, The Glasshouse prepares to return to its roots as an international theatre of dining from 21 June, The Stables will be showcasing a completely new ethos, representing The Grove’s first step in its regenerative journey, working with small scale farms to source truly sustainable produce.
Outside, in the verdant surroundings of the Walled Garden, Jimmy Garcia will be returning to The Grove on 14 July, this time bringing a taste of his Southbank BBQ club to the Hertfordshire countryside. Guests will have a choice of two experiences, including the immersive Jimmy’s Garden Table, where dishes will be served alfresco amongst the vibrant flora of Jemima’s Kitchen Garden.
Enhanced Outdoor Pursuits
Set within 300 acres of rolling Hertfordshire countryside, The Grove Hotel at Hertfordshire benefits from an abundance of outdoor space for guests of all ages to enjoy – perfect for a summer break.
In the Walled Garden, guests can explore Jemima’s Kitchen Garden, play on the all-weather tennis courts and even take a dip in the heated outdoor pool. This summer, Ralph’s Beach, The Grove’s very own sandy suntrap, will welcome Jude’s ice cream pop-up, serving up a delicious range of flavours, including gin & tonic and coconut.
Just a hop, skip and a jump from the Walled Garden, Asher’s Woodland Trails will play host to an extensive range of activities including archery, Segway tours, woodland hawking walks and much more. This summer will also see the return of a partnership with Football Escapes, where children of all abilities have the opportunity to train alongside their football heroes, available as a three-night family retreat package during the school holidays.
For the adults, the re-opening of the award-winning Sequoia Spa promises a tranquil escape, where guests can indulge in a variety of transformative spa treatments for the ultimate relaxation after a day spent exploring the hotel’s surrounding gardens and countryside.
