A nod to the hotel’s history
Award-winning chef Michael Cimarusti — best known for his acclaimed restaurants, Providence and Connie and Ted’s, and sustainable seafood market Cape Seafood and Provisions — has secretly been working with Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles to reimagine the hotel’s signature restaurant, formerly L.A. Chapter.
Best Girl makes its official debut on October 31, 2017, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch with a menu keenly inspired by Los Angeles’ history, culture and cuisines. The restaurant marks Chef Michael’s first foray back into Downtown in 13 years since he last helmed the kitchen at Water Grill.
Best Girl’s name is a nod to the hotel’s history as the once home of maverick film studio, United Artists. Actress and producer Mary Pickford was a co-founder of United Artists, along with fellow cinema luminaries D.W. Griffith, Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks. Pickford’s silent film My Best Girl was the first one screened at the United Artists Theatre, now The Theatre at Ace Hotel. My Best Girl premiered on October 31, 1927; Best Girl opens its doors 90 years later to the day.
