All about the marvelous piece created by Veronese at La Mamounia
La Mamounia, the legendary five-star palace hotel inaugurated in Marrakesh in 1923 and restored in 2009, has recently completed another major renovation designed by the Parisian firm Jouin Manku. This magical place has been transformed and different venues reimagined to deliver a contemporary concept, whilst maintaining its reassuring sensation of time slowing down and traditional taste.
In order to continue granting unique experiences to La Mamounia’s guests, Jouin Manku designed several spaces and joined forces with exceptional craftsmen and high-end furniture and lighting producers. Following a long-lasting relationship with Jouin Manku marked by prestigious projects from Paris to New York City, Veronese was once again invited to provide its expertise for the La Mamounia project. On this occasion, the french maison of Veronese, which is known for its luxury Murano glass lighting fixtures and mirrors, was asked to develop a lighting composition for the hotel’s pool pavilion redesigned by Jouin Manku.
The original design, created and sketched by Jouin Manku, presented to Veronese posed an interesting challenge: how to develop a 3 tiered chandelier – between 4.5 to 8.5 meters in diameter – with lightweight, yet durable materials that could be easily shipped overseas and installed on-site without compromising the design quality and aesthetic?
Thanks to the French design house’s expertise in designing and developing large-scale bespoke lighting fixtures, they successfully carried out their mission. The Veronese design team redeveloped the original structure of the chandelier into numerous parts and a system to assemble and install it on-site with perfect accuracy and ease.
Suspended above a blue ceramic fountain sitting in the middle of the pavilion, the vast chandelier features a medley of decorative elements and materials, each complimenting the other and creating an elegant, yet bold dance of shapes and textures.
