Portofino in Italy and its landmark hotel Splendido will always be associated with the timeless glamour of La Dolce Vita. Housed at a 14-room guest house a the harbour, sister boutique hotel Splendido Mare opened earlier this year after it has undergone a complete renovation. Every detail of the interior design and the guest experience has been carefully crafted to tell the story of the nautical heritage of the harbour town and the surrounding natural beauty of the Ligurian Coast.
Among the rooms and the suites of Splendido Mare, there is also an ultra-luxurious suite named after the Hollywood Star of the 50s, Ava Gardner who stayed here in the early 1950s while filming The Barefoot Contessa.
The Ava Gardner Suite is a vast 56sqm, unfolding across the entire top floor of Belmond Splendido Mare. Sunshine floods in through the wall-to-wall glass window that you can slide back to revel in the sea air and magnificent views. The suite features a spacious terrace with an incomparable view of the harbour, while promontory and Castello Brown is visible from the bedroom and sitting room.A large door leads to the sitting room: this features an almost wall-to-wall glass window that, when open, joins with the terrace to create an expansive half-indoor, half-outdoor space. The main bathroom offers a bathtub and separate shower and there is a second, smaller bathroom.
