The Principal London in London will open in April 2018
Originally opened in 1898, The Principal London occupies the eastern flank of Russell Square in Bloomsbury, London’s most literary neighbourhood.
Belonging to the Frederick Hotels Company, it is boasting a striking terracotta exterior – with four British Queens guarding the entrance – and it was always intended to be a home to glamour and indulgence. It was Charles Fitzroy Doll, prominent architect of the day, that brought this ambitious project to life which was originally named Hotel Russell.
Partly in response to the success of the Hotel Russell, Doll received what would become his most famous commission: the RMS Titanic. The ship’s grand dining room was based on the hotel’s restaurant, and the Titanic also had an exact replica of ‘Lucky George’ – the hotel’s bronze dragon, which can be found on the landing of the main staircase.
Inside the fully renovated Principal Hotel, striking, contemporary interior designs by Tara Bernerd and Russell Sage pay homage to the hotel’s illustrious history whilst providing five-star luxury for the modern traveller.
