Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Monaco set the stage for HBO’s next chapter, with the story unfolding during the Cannes Film Festival and two Riviera hotels taking central roles
The News
HBO has confirmed that The White Lotus Season 4 has begun filming in France, with production taking place across the Côte d’Azur, including Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Monaco, as well as Paris. The new season will follow a fresh group of guests and staff over one week, this time set during the Cannes Film Festival, a backdrop that shifts the series into a more public, image-driven kind of luxury.
Two hotels will anchor the season
Château de la Messardière, reimagined as the White Lotus du Cap, brings scale and seclusion above Pampelonne Bay. A 19th-century palace set within expansive gardens, it delivers the kind of composed Riviera atmosphere the series tends to quietly disrupt.
Hôtel Martinez, cast as the White Lotus Cannes, places the story directly on the Croisette. Opened in 1929, its Art Deco façade and festival proximity make it one of the most recognisable hotel settings on the Riviera. The Hotels to WatchA Setting That Changes the Tone
After Hawaii and Sicily, the move to the French Riviera feels more performative than escapist. Cannes during festival week is not about retreat, but visibility. Arrivals, terraces, reputations. It is a setting where luxury is constantly on display, which makes it a natural extension of what The White Lotus does best.
Cast and Direction
The new season features an extensive ensemble including Helena Bonham Carter, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan and Kumail Nanjiani, among others. Mike White returns as creator, writer and director.
This Season Will Feel Different
This is the first White Lotus built around a major cultural event. The Cannes framework adds pressure, visibility and a sharper social edge. And crucially, it places the hotels at the center again not just as backdrops, but as environments where everything unfolds.
