A room with a view at Zagori, Epirus you will never forget!
You may find a lot of awesome mountain destinations in the mainland of Greece but you will never experience something similar to the stunning beauty of Zagorohoria in the Epirus region. Nestled in a dramatic landscape of rocky slopes, verdant forests, rushing rivers and steep gorges, this complex of picturesque villages also features its own unique kind of architecture. This is why, Zagorohoria villages are among the most popular winter destinations of the country, although they offer exciting experiences throughout the year.
I cannot think of a better way to make a trip to Zagoria unforgettable than by staying at the proper #roomwithaview! If you also seek a luxurious and cozy stay with outstanding vistas, look no further than room “Pergamonto” (this is the Greek word for “bergamot”) at the lovely Pirrion Wellness Boutique Hotel. Talking about a roomy suite, elegantly decorated in pastel hues, ideal for a couple or a family of 4 people. The suite’s highlight is its spacious private terrace overlooking Ano Pedina, one of the most beautiful villages of Central Zagori and a perfect off-the-beaten-track base for exploring the region. Similarly to the whole decoration of the hotel, the suite combines stylish furniture with luxurious touches and local details. Comfortable sofas, fireplaces and wooden painted ceilings pay homage to the area’s traditional style.
My husband and I were lucky enough to spend a few days at Pirrion Wellness Boutique Hotel, after New Year’s Day. The friendly weather and the sunny sky allowed us to make the most of our veranda, enjoying enchanting views from every direction. We simply could not get enough of it during the daytime! As for the evenings, we just had to fill our Jacuzzi with hot water and indulge in some more relaxing time.
What was magical was the time when we woke every morning to breathe the crisp air of Epirus and let our eyes travel to the calming view of the stone houses with the slate roofs and the chimneys around us.
Pirrion Wellness proved to be a real treat for all our senses. The food at the hotel has a great reputation and its restaurant (named Skantzohoiros, the Greek word for «hedgehog) is on the list with the best spots for dinner at Zagorohoria. We confirmed this during our first evening there, when we tried a traditional chicken pie and several other delicious dishes from its menu such as slow-cooked lamb and homemade pasta stuffed with cheese and herbs. The wine list is also perfectly curated and worth tasting as Pirrion likes to focus on local winemakers.
Every morning, breakfast was more like a degustation of homemade jams made of local fruits (some of which we had never heard of) and not just a meal that opens the day. There was also a variety of pies (pies are the “fish and chips” of Epirus), not to mention the hot, super healthy Trahana soup, a nutritious “superfood” made of milk and flour that goes back to Ancient Greece.
Pirrion Wellness Boutique Hotel had also more ways to pamper us as it also features a hammam where one can try treatments by experienced therapists. When the weather allows it, the team at Pirrion offers its guests the possibility to attend environmental tourism activities, outdoor wine tasting or cultural events.
Before leaving our cute guesthouse, I thought that I definitely had to take some of its trademark flavours home. Not difficult at all, one can buy all kinds of marmalades, spoon sweets as well as liqueurs, all made in the traditional way by the mother of the owners. Until I go back to Zagori, the sweet-scented marmalade will surely make me recall the moments by the crackling fire of Pergamonto suite. Till next time, Pirrion!
