Experiencing the fusion of history and contemporary design in Stockholm’s Miss Clara Hotel

As soon as I stepped inside Miss Clara Hotel, I knew I was in for a treat. The stunning Art Nouveau building, which used to be a girls’ school back in 1910, has been transformed into a first-class boutique hotel under the leadership of Gert Wingårdh, Sweden’s most internationally renowned architect. The hotel’s name pays tribute to the school’s beloved and progressive principal, Clara Strömberg, a pioneer in sexual education and other fields.

I had the pleasure of staying in one of Miss Clara’s 92 rooms, and it was an experience like no other. The room’s unique character and charm came from the beautiful detailing of the original Art Nouveau architecture, combined with sharp timeless contemporary additions in superior quality natural materials, and edgy design elements. The large arched windows facing Sveavägen Boulevard and the oak parquet floors were signature features, and I felt like I was transported to a different era.

The interior design of Miss Clara Hotel is more than just eye candy. It’s a beautiful fusion of history and contemporary design, showcasing specially crafted furniture made from solid, top-notch materials of predominantly Swedish origin. We’re talking limestone, oak, bentwood, and natural leather, all seamlessly blended with the original Art Nouveau architecture. The result? A timeless elegance that oozes sophistication and warmth. The color scheme deserves a standing ovation, with darker notes at ground level creating a solid foundation, while white walls and ceilings amplify the spaciousness of the rooms. And let me tell you, attention to detail is the name of the game here. Every piece has been carefully curated to complement the hotel’s overall design aesthetic. Among my favourites were the fluffy blankets, the heavenly Byredo amenities, the dark brown wood and velvet headboards.

But Miss Clara Hotel is not just about its rooms. The hotel’s restaurant, Miss Clara Restaurant, is a gastronomic heaven that serves Swedish and international brasserie classics updated in their own personal style using predominantly ecological, locally produced, superior quality ingredients in season.

One of the highlights of my stay at Miss Clara Hotel was undoubtedly the breakfast experience. It was a true breakfast feast that exceeded all expectations. The combination of a buffet and à la carte options ensured that there was something for everyone. As a food lover, I found myself particularly drawn to the bowl of smashed avocado, which I happily paired with the famous Swedish smoked salmon. The flavors were absolutely divine and a perfect start to the day.

But it wasn’t just the food that impressed me. As a tea enthusiast, I was delighted to discover a variation of Earl Grey called Earl Grey Cream. This delightful blend was enhanced by a touch of vanilla, creating a fragrant and smooth cup of tea. It became my morning ritual to savor this unique tea flavor, and I found myself on a quest to find it throughout Stockholm.

During my stay, I also had the opportunity to check out an interesting exhibition of art by women artists from all over Sweden. It was a refreshing and empowering experience to see the works of art created by talented women, and it added another layer of depth and meaning to my stay at Miss Clara Hotel.

Overall, my 4-day stay at Miss Clara Hotel was a remarkable experience. The hotel’s historic building, combined with its contemporary design and gastronomic offerings, made it an unforgettable destination.
