Now open, “Memory & Horizon” brings tourism posters from the National Historical Museum’s collection to Radisson Blu Park Hotel Athens, tracing how Greece captured the traveller’s imagination.
Before saved Instagram posts and endlessly shared island guides, there was the travel poster. A carefully chosen image, a distinctive typeface and the promise of somewhere worth going: Greece knew how to make an impression long before the scroll.
That visual history takes centre stage at Radisson Blu Park Hotel Athens, where “Memory & Horizon” opened on October 21. Curated by Eleni Athanasiou, the exhibition brings together tourism posters from the National Historical Museum’s collection, exploring the imagery that helped shape Greece’s identity as a travel destination.
The Art of Making You Want to Go
Travel posters have a particular charm. Designed to persuade, they also reveal what a destination wanted the world to see: the landscapes, cultural references and experiences chosen to turn curiosity into a journey.
Here, nostalgia is only part of the appeal. These posters invite a closer look at how Greece presented itself to the world, and how those earlier images still influence the country we picture when we think of a Greek holiday.
For travellers with an eye for graphic design, the exhibition offers another way into Greece’s tourism history. For locals, it is an opportunity to revisit a familiar destination through the visual language of another era.
A Cultural Stop on Alexandras Avenue
There is something fitting about encountering travel posters inside a hotel: images created to inspire a journey, displayed in a place where journeys unfold.
On Alexandras Avenue, Radisson Blu Park Hotel Athens offers a cultural detour for visitors and Athenians alike. With “Memory & Horizon” running until January 17, 2027, there is time to step inside and explore the images that made earlier generations dream of Greece.
