A 16-suite property on the bay of Nikouria is opening July 6. Here is why it is already one of the most interesting Cyclades openings of 2026.
Amorgos has always resisted the formula. While the rest of the Cyclades cycled through boom seasons and boutique hotel overload, this island stayed exactly as it was with schist paths, meltemi winds, a pace that belongs to another era. It is the kind of place that inspires poets, not influencers. Nikos Gatsos wrote Amorgos here. The Big Blue was filmed here. And yet, until now, the accommodation offer never quite matched the weight of the setting.

Amorgina changes that. Opening on July 6 in Agios Pavlos, on the southwestern coast of the island, Amorgina is a 16-suite property designed from the ground up to belong to Amorgos, not just to sit on it. The location alone is significant: the bay of Nikouria, sheltered from the Aegean’s summer winds and facing the uninhabited islet of the same name, offers the kind of calm water that is genuinely rare in the Cyclades in July and August.
The Design
Architect Thodoris Zouboulakis approached the project with restraint, which is exactly what this landscape demands. Clean lines, Cycladic sensibility, materials and colours that respond to the island’s stone and particular quality of light. Interior design is by Vana Krymniotis. Landscaping by Evi Kimeri. The result reads as considered rather than contrived, a property that earns its place in the terrain rather than imposing on it.
The 16 suites range from 32 to 47 sqm across five categories: Junior Suite, Family Suite, Courtyard Family Suite, Hot Tub Family Suite and Courtyard Hot Tub Suite. All have private verandas, sea views, two-room layouts accommodating up to four guests, a mini bar, espresso station and organic amenities. Several offer two bathrooms and connecting room configurations, which makes this a serious option for families travelling with intention rather than just convenience.
The Pool and the Table
The centrepiece is a 25-metre infinity pool that reads as a continuation of the sea rather than a feature separate from it. Sunset faces Nikouria. The path to the beach begins just below.

The restaurant, open from morning through evening across indoor and outdoor spaces, is where Amorgina makes its clearest statement about what kind of hotel this is. The kitchen is overseen by chef Babis Kountouris, with day-to-day operations led by chef Christos Sismanis. The focus is the gastronomy of Amorgos and the broader Cyclades, a cuisine built on local producers, honest ingredients and the logic of the island rather than the aspirations of a hotel menu trying to impress.
The Philosophy
Sustainability here is not a section of the website. It runs through the architecture, the materials, the kitchen sourcing and the room amenities. Amorgina positions itself as an active supporter of the local community working with Amorgina producers and creating experiences that connect guests with the actual character of the island, not a curated version of it.
